civvy: One day, there’s a good chance that I’ll back down on my previous “IE is awesome” stance
Mark: is that day today?
because, you know, it should be
civvy: But as a matter of pride, we’ll have to either keep it between ourselves or wait for Nd to die
Marvellous.

Everything is working this morning with the exception of RDP from work… I forgot to add the NAT rule - oops.
It’s faster to boot!

It also dawns on me that despite my best interest i’ve not updated for ages (until now). Well.. what’s happened?
I’ve got a new car for a start! A Honda Integra Type R so i’ve been hanging out alot at itr-dc2.com. Pictures can be seen here: http://xenocide.info/ITR/.
Bean’s got a new blog (see the blog roll thingy).
That’s about it I think. I’ll try and update a bit more.

Well i’ve been up all night trying to sort out a problem that i’ve had on my Ubuntu server/router.
It’s got three interfaces;
eth0 - internal (172.16.10.0/24)
eth1 - external (from modem)
eth2 - DMZ (192.168.2.0/24)
Basically when I bought up the networking (via /etc/init.d/networking restart) everything was ok, my routing table showed routes for 172.16.10.0/24 via eth0, 192.168.2.0/24 via eth2 and 0.0.0.0 via eth1. A minute or so later the default route would get deleted for no apparent reason and i’d have to add it again (using route add default dev eth1). This would be quite an annoying thing.
I installed syslog-ng and watched the /var/log/syslog (using tail -f) for when the connection failed (helps having three input/output method here, I had a console, dumb terminal and an ssh connection from a laptop). Turns out the dhclient acting on eth1 was requesting a new address, not getting it from the modem for whatever reason and just… deleteing the route - odd.
In the end i edited /etc/network/interfaces to set the interface to static addressing method, removed everything from /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and turned off the dhcp server on the modem (dlink dsl-320t). Sorted it out although I do have some odd entries in the syslog now:
dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth1 255.255.255.255 port 67 inteval 2
(rinse, repeat).
No idea why but it seems to be working (icmp_seq on a ping to ping0.ja.net is ~2000 now). We’ll see if it’s behaving in the morning.

As much as I hate to admit it, I’ve been watching Big Brother this year, but for one reason… Liam Young is in the house.
I’ve known of Liam Young for years though different online communities and have always regarded him as a bit of a twat, looks like I was right!

I’ve changed the tagline at the top to something that I read in Singletrack magazine.
